About the song

“Everlasting Light” by John Pape is a beautiful praise and worship song that speaks to the hope and comfort found in a life centered on faith in God. The song’s lyrics are based on the biblical passages found in Isaiah 60:19-21. The song invites worshiper to find hope and joy in the eternal Light that is God.

Isaiah 60:19-21 is a prophecy about the future restoration of Israel and the coming of a new era in which the light of God will shine upon the nation, and the glory of the Lord will be its everlasting light. The passage speaks of the Lord being the light for the people, and it also speaks of the end of mourning and the arrival of righteousness. The passage also mentions the end of the sun and the moon as a source of light as the Lord will be the everlasting light. These verses could be interpreted as a metaphor for the spiritual restoration of Israel and the coming of the Messiah.

From a Christian perspective, this song speaks about the second coming of Jesus Christ and the end of the world and the beginning of the new world where there will be no need for the sun or the moon as Jesus will be the everlasting light. The song lyrics describe the coming of a new era, in which traditional sources of light and guidance, like the sun and the moon, will no longer be necessary. Instead, the Lord will provide an “everlasting light” that will guide and illuminate the way forward. The lyrics also seem to speak of a time when sorrow and mourning will come to an end, and righteousness will bring about the inheritance of a new land.

Overall, “Everlasting Light” by John Pape is a beautiful and uplifting song that reminds us of the hope and comfort found in a life centered on faith in God. By quoting biblical passages and using rich imagery, Pape encourages listeners to let go of the fleeting lights of this world and instead find their hope and joy in the eternal Light that is God. Whether we are in a season of darkness or of light, may we all be reminded of the truth of this song: that the Lord will always be to us an everlasting light.

John Pape Bio

John Pape is a independent, self managed Christian songwriter who creates worship and praise music for seekers and believers in the church.

John states his mission “My music ministry is to create songs that will encourage a closer relationship to Jesus. The songs are crafted to help Christians though their daily walk. The songs provide a positive soundtrack for people’s lives.”

John’s songwriting drive is to honor God though words and music. His experience has grown over several years of honing the art of songwriting.

Born and raised in California his musical journey began as a young boy. His first instrument was the violin and her participated in the school glee club. As a teenager he got his first guitar. After a few lessons, he basically self-taught himself with a veracious appetite to learn the guitar.

John was going through a spiritual journey which eventually led him to a small store front church where he heard the gospel and by faith believed in the saving grace of Jesus.

At the time of conversion life had to change. It no longer seemed appropriate to live the rock n roll lifestyle. So, for a season the guitar was set down. After a period of time while reading the bible, he read the parable of the talents. Convicted, that he was not using his God given talent of music he prayed. Then leaving his home to take a meditative walk he passed by a piece of paper on the sidewalk. I voice spoke and said to pick up the paper. Turning around he picked it up and it was a song sheet. Not just any song sheet but a Christian song. Realizing that was confirmation he reached out that week to find a Christian band to join. Within a week he was in a Christian Rock band that wrote original music. This band lasted a few years, but the passion to write songs continued. Some early solo releases included “Tunes for Him” and “Almighty Reigns”

Some of John’s musical influences that help shape his songwriting include Chris Tomlin, Benton Brown, Matt Redman. In addition to these influences, John’s sound is shaped by Maranatha Music, Passion.

John is also author of the book “Building a House of Worship”. The book was written as a guide to Christian church worship leaders to better minister to the people they serve as they use their gift of music.

Currently John is working on a project to release several new Praise and Worship songs that were written to build and encourage Christians in their daily walk.
