Lyrics
Verse Each step I took led me astray Further from God's perfect way Sin had marked my every mile Death stood waiting all the while Chorus There is a road that leads to life Where mercy conquered sin and strife My Savior died for all my sins Now He holds my life down the road of time Verse Grace was sealed at the cross Love stretched beyond every loss I called His name He welcomed me His risen life has set me free Chorus There is a road that leads to life Where mercy conquered sin and strife My Savior died for all my sins Now He holds my life down the road of time Bridge Every journey abounding with grace Every step I take brings me to a place Where everlasting life guides my way I walk with Christ forevermore Chorus There is a road that leads to life Where mercy conquered sin and strife My Savior died for all my sins Now He holds my life down the road of time Ending There is a road that leads to life Where mercy conquered sin and strife My Savior died for all my sins Now He holds my life Now He holds my life Now He holds my life down the road of time Copyright © 2026 John Pape Publisher The Mediatunes Project (ASCAP) All Right Reserved Used by Permission
About This Song
I would like to introduce this song called “The Road“
The song is inspired by the series of scriptures commonly known as the Romans Road. For those unfamiliar with these verses, they show a pathway toward God’s plan of salvation.
The Bible tells us that everyone ever born has sinned and has fallen short of God’ glory. This is because Sin separates us from God. The result is we are heading down the wrong road. It is a road that leads to death. However, because God is compassionate and has great love for us, a plan was created. To fulfill this plan God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins. To die is one this it yet another to rise from the grave and that is exactly what Jesus did. As we continue down the road there is a promise. That promise is everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus will be saved. The direction changes to the road of salvation which is timeless and forever.
This song tells that story. It is not only my story, but it is a story for anyone show has found foregiveness, hope and a new life in Christ.
“The Road” is the latest addition to John Pape’s dedication to create music that lifts up the name of God. This song is driven by faith. Stylistically the music is a Christian Rock song with a driving beat accompanied by uplifting instrumentation. Instrument used in the song include electric guitar, bass, drums and keys.
Because the lyrics are inspired by the “Romans Road”, the theme within the song cover grace, redemption. It makes use of the imagery of the road to salvation. There is much emphasis on mercy and salvation.
The song’s arrangement and production are in the style of Contemporary Christian Rock.
